It’s not hard to notice that immorality, violence, impurity and evil of all shapes and sizes is rampant in our civilization. It’s good versus evil day in and day out, and it often seems that evil prevails. Yet, for those who know their Mother in Heaven – the Virgin Mary – evil is on the run, and has been since her purity graced the earth 2,000 years ago.
The Virgin Mary, quite simply is God’s greatest creation. And although the Virgin Mary is the Immaculate Conception, she doesn’t have a trace of arrogance or pride in her entire body.
And it’s this humility and purity before God that makes the Blessed Virgin Mary – by nature – an enemy of the pride, arrogance and dissent of the devil and his minions.

This knock-down, drag-out fight between the Virgin Mary and Satan, is referenced all the way back in Genesis when God tells Satan:
“I will put enmities between thee and the woman and they seed and her seed; she shall crush thy head, and though shalt lie in wait for her heel (Gen 3:15).”
So right from the beginning, the Holy Virgin Mary was crushing evil and standing up to sin. The great St. Louis De Montfort in his book True Devotion to Mary makes it clear that the Virgin Mary and those who love her, are part of a spiritual battle.
“God has set enmities, antipathies and secret hatreds between the true children and servants of Mary and the children and slaves of the devil.”
Is it any wonder then that it was the the Blessed Virgin Mary (Our Lady of Guadalupe) who confronted the evil of human sacrifices in the Aztec civilization of present-day Mexico, converting the people to the Catholic faith?
Today the human sacrifices aren’t done on public temples, but in private abortion clinics. And it’s only devotion to the Holy Virgin Mary that will abolish the crime of abortion in America.
St. Luis De Montfort reminds us that Satan, in his pride, can’t stand to be defeated by a humble, pure little woman named the Blessed Virgin Mary:
“Satan, being proud, suffers infinitely more from being beaten and punished by a little and humble handmaid of God, and her humility humbles him more than the divine power.”
We should recall Pope John Paul II’s Virgin Mary devotion, and that devotion to the Virgin Mary is a sign that our faith is one with the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, the Holy Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.
St. Padre Pio understood that the Blessed Virgin Mary was a shield against evil. When St. Padre Pio wanted his Rosary, he’d famously say: “Get me my weapon!”
Devotion to the Virgin Mary is so important to the Church and the faithful that the Catechism of the Catholic Church notes:
971 “‘All generations will call me blessed‘: ‘The Church’s devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship.’ The Church rightly honors ‘the Blessed Virgin with special devotion. From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honored with the title of ‘Mother of God,’ to whose protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs. . . .”
