Catholics should not be misled by groups who call themselves “Catholic” while still attacking the Roman Catholic Church and promoting the killing of innocent human life. These groups, such as ‘Catholics for Choice,‘ are nothing more than foot soldiers of the anti-Catholic, pro-abortion lobby in America.
Looking at the website of Catholics for Choice (formerly known as Catholics for a Free Choice) is the best way to see that there is nothing Catholic about this group.
Much like Planned Parenthood, Catholics for Choice must get very creative with their lies when it comes to abortion. The Catholics for Choice website:
“Catholic support for legal abortion is grounded in core principles of Catholic theology, which respect the moral agency of all women.”
Say what? The killing of unborn children is found in Catholic theology? That’s certainly original, but here’s what the Catechism of the Catholic Church says about abortion:
2271 “Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law..”
Catholics who are in communion with the Catholic Church listen to the Church’s teaching authority, for when the Church speaks, Jesus Christ speaks.
Catholics for Choice demands that the Catholic Church “change” its position on abortion, because its own research indicates that the majority of Catholic people believe abortion should be legal.
The data of Catholic for Choice may or may not be accurate, but what it doesn’t address is that Catholics must give their free assent to authoritative teachings of the Pope and the Catholic Church. That’s what it means to be Catholic!
The Pope and the Bishops united to him are not like the Board of Directors at your the local YMCA – they are successors of the Apostles, men who are guided by the Holy Spirit. The Church has taught definitively for over 2,000 years that intentional abortion is a grave, immoral crime!

“CFC promotes sexual and reproductive health and rights and works to ensure that public policies are based on democratic values, not denominational faith positions.”
Let’s be clear here: ‘reproductive health’ is Planned Parenthood abortion language. This is not Christian thought, practice or teaching. Let’s also take Catholics for Choice at their word: they state that they are not only in favor of abortion, they are promoting it!
Here is the Catholic Catechism addressing the gravity of abortion and the killing of the unborn:
2272 “Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of excommunication to this crime against human life. ‘A person who procures a completed abortion incurs excommunication latae sententiae,’ ‘by the very commission of the offense,’ and subject to the conditions provided by Canon Law. The Church does not thereby intend to restrict the scope of mercy. Rather, she makes clear the gravity of the crime committed, the irreparable harm done to the innocent who is put to death, as well as to the parents and the whole of society.”
